Policed: An Older Man Younger Woman Romance (A Man Who Knows What He Wants Book 11) Page 2

  “I was doing research.”

“In that place? What kind of research can you do in that place?”

“I’m working on a screenplay and I needed to better understand some of the characters.”

“Just what L.A. needs, more screenwriters.”

He shook his head, and I smiled. Suddenly he let out a little laugh and I was quick to join him. The air got a lot lighter.

“Do you want to come in and sit down?” I asked.

“Is there anywhere to sit inside this cracker box?”

  “Very funny. It’s dorm life.”

I offered him the folding chair from the desk my roomie and I shared.

He told me he was also working undercover doing research, but the real kind. The police kind. When he had to go running out of the bar like that and beat up those two guys it totally blew his cover, and months of police work went down the drain with it.

He’d gotten his ass chewed pretty hard by his Captain, but in the end he said everything was okay. The Captain couldn’t be mad at him for what he did. If anything he was glad he had saved me from who knows what. They were both just frustrated that their work had been for naught.

I felt really bad and apologized profusely. He said not to worry, that there was quite a bit of evidence already and the guy he was after was toast. I’m not sure if that was the truth or if he was just cheering me up for being so stupid. Either way it was working. I was definitely feeling better. Just seeing him again made my day, and I got to tease him about his feral look.

“It will all be gone tomorrow morning. New name, new identity. Break out the clippers and the Bic tomorrow and I’ll look like the Chase you’ve come to know.”

  I giggled.

  “What’s so funny?”

“You know, I never asked you about your name.”

“Yeah, I know. You were one of the few who had the decency not to.”

“But curiosity has finally gotten the best of me.”

“Okay, don’t ask. Yes, it’s real. The story behind it…I’ll tell you some other time.”

  “Promise?”

  “Promise.”

He just sat there staring into my eyes. After a few seconds his eyes drifted down to my neckline and towards my chest. I had put on my pajamas in anticipation of falling asleep to my Netflix binge. My shirt was a little too tight, the bottoms even tighter. I could see in the reflection from the oversized mirror in my room that my top looked like I was smuggling two raisins. Mr. Justice seemed to be noticing it too.

My eyes wandered to his groin. He may have been undercover, but oh my God, he hadn’t forgotten to bring along his night stick. He was huge and it was clear he was feeling what I was feeling.

“I better get going,” he said.

“Okay, Mr. Justice. Thanks again. You saved me.”

“Don’t mention it. And you can call me Chase now. We’re both adults.”

  Yes, we are.

“Animated movies are all the rage these days. Maybe a screenplay for one of those would be safer.”

  I laughed. “I think you’re right.”

“Okay, good to see you again.” He pushed open the door.

  “Mr. Justice. I mean Chase.”

“Yes.” He turned back to me.

  “The story about your name.”

  “Another time.”

  “Maybe next week.”

I could see him thinking about it. I knew he was leaving before he did something he regretted. Something he wanted to do, no doubt, but with his history with my dad there was no way he could. At least not yet.

  “Maybe next week.”

“Can I get your number then?”

“Yeah, sure,” he said. I reached for my phone trying to contain my happy dance. My enthusiasm quickly dissipated when he handed me a business card.

“Call me anytime…especially if you’re in any sort of trouble and you need my help.”

Oh, I’m in trouble all right. I need you to investigate the emergency I’m having in my pajama bottoms right now.

  “I will,” I said.

He walked off down the hall.

I shut my door and locked it. Netflix and Ben & Jerry’s would have to wait for another night. I had my own movie I was going to play out in my mind tonight. And I didn’t need the remote control. My fingers were going to be pressing a different kind of button.

  CHAPTER 4

  Scarlett

I ’m here to see Mr. Justice,” I say to the desk sergeant.

  “Is he expecting you?”

  “Not exactly.”

  “What does not exactly mean?”

“He gave me his card and told me to call him if I run into any troubles.”

  “Are you in any troubles?”

“Not at the moment,” I say, realizing how stupid it sounds.

“But you think you can just show up where he works and ask to see him?”

“He’s also an old family friend. My dad’s best friend, actually.”

The desk sergeant rolled her eyes and exhaled hard. A little courtesy would have helped, but I can’t entirely blame her. I was pushing the line and this was L.A. I’m sure she’s seen and heard it all and just doesn’t have the time or patience anymore.

“Please take a seat,” she says.

Two minutes later and I see him. He’s motioning his finger towards me to come. The same come hither motion he would use to make me cum under a different set of circumstances. The desk sergeant buzzes me back.

“Wow, you look different,” I say.

  “Told ya.”

“All part of the job, I guess.”

“All part of the job. New look, new name, new assignment.”

“It suits you. You look really handsome.”

“You didn’t like the caveman look?”

“I’m more of a twenty-first century kind of girl.”

“I thought that look was making a comeback.”

  “Mostly with hipsters, Mr. Justice.”

  “Chase.”

  “Right, sorry.”

We walked back to his office. He offered me a seat. I could see he was busy, but was making time for me out of courtesy to my dad.

  “So, what’s up?” he said.

“I just wanted to thank you for what you did. What you did might have saved my life.”

“Nonsense. Don’t mention it. I was just doing my job, and your dad tells me you’re taking kickboxing classes anyways so that guy would have been on the wrong end of starting something with you.”

Shit! Did he tell my dad already.

“Don’t worry,” he said, reading my expression. “I didn’t say anything to your dad. This can be our secret.”

I can think of something else that can be our secret.

“Thank you,” I said. “And here…I brought these for you.”

I handed him the box. He shook it then sniffed it.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. Is this what I think it is?”

“You won’t know until you open it.”

He opened up the lid and looked at me with a cocked neck. His body language said it all. “Really?”

  “I know you like them.”

“You come to the police station and you bring me a box of donuts?”

“Oh my gosh. I never thought of it like that.”

  “Suuure.”

  “Really, I didn’t.”

“Well, I’ll take your word for it. Partly because I know you’re an honest girl.” He paused momentarily, his eyes lingering on my body just long enough to reveal his true thoughts. “Sorry, young woman I mean. And partly because I do love me some donuts.”

  I couldn’t help but giggle.

  “Want one?” he asked.

  “No thanks.”

  “Do you mind?”

  “Not at all.”

He dug for a Boston cream and bit in. “I really need to head over to Krispy Kreme and make some busts.”

  “At Krispy Kreme?”

  “At Krisp
y Kreme.”

  “And why is that?”

“Because I’m totally sure there must be drugs in these things.”

We both laughed. I always liked that about Chase. He was so much older than me, and he was serious when the time came, but he was also always so up for having a good time. He was positive and upbeat, but mature at the same time. The boys at SC were also up for fun, but fun for them was more like keg stands, endless bong rips, and betting on Trojan football. No bueno.

“Well I’m sure if anyone could do the job, it would certainly be you.” That sounded totally stupid.

He stopped chewing and looked at me suspiciously. “Sounds like you’re buttering me up for something. What is it? Come out with it.”

“Well, I can add mind reader to your list of skills.”

  “It’s part of our training.”

“I was thinking about what you said.” And I was also thinking about you naked and on top of me.

  “Annnd?”

“And I wanted to ask a favor of you.”

  “Shoot.”

“Well, I really need a good grade in this course. The teacher has a lot of connections in Hollywood, and I really want to impress her. Plus, I just really like the class.”

“This is the class you were, what were your words…researching, for last night?”

I smiled. “Yeah, the one I was researching for.”

“Okay, just so I’m clear on the terms the younger generation uses these days.”

The way he was teasing me made it hard for me to finish. I knew I was blushing, but that wasn’t the only thing that was turning red. My pussy was on fire for this man. He may have been chomping on a donut, but I had no idea where it was going to go on his body. His body was chiseled beyond belief. If I ate that thing I’d have to run laps around campus just to burn it off, but not him. I thought our metabolisms slowed with age. Guess time forgot about Chase.

I was off in la-la land thinking about just how hot he was. Imagining jumping across that desk and tearing his shirt open, buttons flying everywhere. And the craziest thing was it wasn’t even a police uniform. He was in street clothes. I couldn’t imagine how he looked in his uniform. Meow!

“I’m waiting,” he said, grabbing a glazed donut this time. He sure polished off the first in record time.

“So I’m already committed to my theme.”

“So you can’t change it up and write a Shrek or Toy Story.”

“Right,” I laughed. “Something more Law & Order: LA.”

  “Don’t forget CHiPs.”

“Yeah, a Los Angeles police procedural.”

“Aren’t there enough of those on TV?”

“There are so many because they’re successful.”

  “Good point.”

  “So…”

  “Here it comes.”

“I was hoping you might be able to take me for a ride along.”

“A ride along? Are you serious?”

So much for that idea. He shot that one down even quicker than I thought.

“Just messing with you. Yeah, that shouldn’t be a problem.”

  “Really?”

  “Sure, why not.”

I jumped up out of my seat and wrapped my arms around him. I knew the waiting list for ride alongs with the LAPD was long. I was so excited that he was going to help me out with my university work, and I was more excited by what I felt pressing against my hip as I hugged him.

I pulled myself in tighter, intentionally pulling my shoulder blades a little closer together causing my breasts to press against him. As I did I felt his cock twitch. I wanted to just drop to my knees and worship its length and girth right there in the station, and I could feel that he wanted it too.

My head buried in his chest, I could smell that same masculine, woodsy scent from last night. I could see his chest hairs. I wanted to run my fingers through them as I felt his muscles. I didn’t even know what chest hairs looked like anymore. Anybody on campus who was as ripped as he was was certain to shave their chest, mimicking a plucked chicken. Gross.

But not him. He was all natural. I wondered if he even trimmed his pubic hair, or if he was more of the Magnum P.I. type. Last night I may have gotten carried away and Googled some Tom Select images. Talk about a real man. A throw back to when men were men.

But that was last night, and this was now. And right now I could feel my pussy burning, and the juices that were starting to drip from it weren’t doing anything to cool down its heat. I wanted him, and I wanted him bad. Dad’s best friend nonsense be damned. I was a woman now. I could make my own choices, and I choose him. And as much as his body was telling me he was choosing me right now, I had to wonder if I’d be able to get his mind to agree. I always knew him as a man of honor and respect. Sure, he was a ladies man, but he always treated them fairly. He never led any women on and was a gentleman to them in public. Behind closed doors I could only wonder. And would I be able to convince him that the honorable thing to do was to show this newbie a thing or two, or three or four, about just how much fun two adults can have in the bedroom?

  CHAPTER 5

  Scarlett

T onight was the big night. My first ride along. An entire week had passed and all I could think about was Chase.

I was thirty minutes early to the station. I sat in the waiting room, tapping my foot against the tiles. It wasn’t something I normally did, and I didn’t notice it for the first ten minutes. I just couldn’t sit still. I was so excited to spend time with him in the police car. Sure, I wanted to do research for my project, and I would. Chase was giving me something no one else in my class would have. An authentic police experience to draw from. But he was giving me so much more. Time together. Back home he was mostly attached to the hip to my dad. More accurately it was the other way around. Chase and my dad had went to university together. My dad had played it safe and graduated with an accounting degree from the Marshall School of Business. Chase had graduated with a political science degree and shortly thereafter was on his way to the police academy. He was a lot bigger, stronger, and better looking than my dad. My dad was on the debate squad. Chase was a tight end on the football team. They couldn’t have been more different, but maybe that’s what drew them to each other. There was nothing really to be gained from each other, initially, except friendship. As the years had passed they spent most of their time debating and talking. For what my dad lacked physically, he made up for with his brain. As much as Chase had been a jock, he was far from the “dumb jock” stereotype. He seemed to enjoy nothing more than debating with my dad, and very rarely was it sports. A huge difference, and breath of fresh air, from the boys who surrounded me these days.

Maybe it was because he had met my dad at college that he was so open to helping me at a similar time in my life. Maybe it was the nostalgia. Maybe it was the idea of helping out a buddy’s kid. I tried my best to reason away the thought that it was simply because of me. I thought so, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up only to be extremely disappointed when I found out he didn’t see me the way I saw him.

“Miss,” a uniformed officer said. “Officer Justice is ready for you. Right this way, please.”

The woman led me through a set of doors and out the back to what appeared to be their motor pool. There were numerous police cars. Just looking at them all made me feel more powerful and protected.

“Scarlett, over here.” I looked down the line and saw Chase waving me over.

He may have been thirty yards away, but the sight of him was enough to stop me in my tracks. He had done it. He had worn his uniform and the man that was already the sexiest man alive to me, somehow became even sexier. He was so authoritative looking. So official.

I could see from this distance that his chest hair was gone. I always preferred a man to have chest hair, but somehow he wore the clean chest look amazingly well. It just looked so streamlined combined with his uniform. I didn’t know if there was an official regulation regarding body hair or he removed
it to assimilate to his next assignment. Either way I was curious to see where else he did, and didn’t, have hair.

  “Are you coming or not?”
